While logging a workout, you will see the sets, weight, and reps for the exercise you are performing. Next to the reps for each set, you will see a circled number. This number represents your RIR, or reps in reserve.
RIR reflects how many additional reps you believe you could have completed with that weight on that set. For example, if you want to finish a set with about three reps left in reserve, you would choose a weight and rep target that will allow you to complete the set while still having roughly three more reps available.
To change the RIR target for a set, tap the Reps field.
Select the RIR value you want to use, such as lowering it to 1 or setting it to 0 for technical failure.
The selected RIR value updates immediately for that set.
You can also update RIR after the set is completed if the set feels different from what you expected.
For example, you may plan a set of 10 reps at 50lb to reach technical failure. After completing the set, you might realize you could have performed an additional rep or two. In that case, you can update the RIR value to reflect how many reps you believe you had left.
Updating RIR after the set helps the app better understand your actual effort and improves future weight and rep recommendations through Smart Progression.
